Notre Dame

Ian Book: Commentary

By April 7, 2020 No Comments

Let’s begin with some statistics.

Ian Book has logged 707 pass attempts in his career at Notre Dame (2017 – Present). 15 of these 707 attempts resulted in interceptions (2.1%). Pretty good, right? Let’s keep going. Book is 21-3 as a starter for the Fighting Irish, and the odds are high that at the end of this upcoming season, he will be second all-time in passing yards at ND, just ahead of Jimmy Clausen and behind Brady Quinn. In Ian Book’s career, he has lead Notre Dame to an undefeated regular season and a berth in the College Football Playoff. By all numbers and statistics, Ian Book has had a hallmark career.

So…why are Notre Dame fans unsupportive of Book.

Well, for one, 40% of Book’s interceptions come inside of the opponent’s 25 yard line. But for the most part, naysayers critique Book for how he performs in games against elite opponents. Book finished the 2018 regular season with an average 162.5 rating—his rating against Clemson in the CFP? 83.6

In 2019, more of the same. Book had an average rating of 148.5

BUT, with all of this said…I like the guy a lot. The main reason being—

The guy has heart. Statistics aside, this guy leads the team to wins, and I think he will be a major key in this upcoming season.

  1. Installing tinted windows on his car.

  2. Online shopping for exotic fish for his fish tank.

  3. Playing Call of Duty under the username ‘HookedOnBook’

  4. Watching re-runs of ND vs. WF 2018.
